Many builders and developers have an affinity for the areas in which they build. Maybe it’s the town that they grew up in, or where they went to school, or where they live with their own family. For a conscientious company, however, building homes is only the beginning. Building relationships with a community and its residents can be just as important if not more so in the long run!
This approach to doing business describes Ron Bonvie’s philosophy to a T! As a prominent developer of projects throughout Massachusetts, he has made it a priority to try and enhance the lives of those less fortunate in the towns in which he builds.
Recently, Ron’s contributions to his own community were recognized with two very distinguished honors – the Town of Mashpee’s “Thanks for Giving” award, and the Mashpee Chamber of Commerce’s “Business Citizen of the Year” award. Both awards recognize the leadership, time and resources Ron has contributed to a variety of causes, community service organizations and charities.
The Town of Mashpee’s Human Services Committee awarded him its annual “Thanks for Giving” award for his commitment to under-served members of the community. “Whether it’s Christmas presents for a family that would otherwise go without, or being the high-bidder at a live auction fundraiser, you can always count on Ron,” Chairman of the Human Services Committee, John J. Cahalane said.
As a developer, Ron says, “you learn quickly in this business that there are ebbs and flows. Really good times are almost inevitably followed by hard times. You’ll experience four or five great years, and then be just scraping by through some terrible ones. In my lifetime, I’ve experienced some pretty high highs and some really low lows, and in the position I find myself in now, I am inspired to do the things I do.”
“When someone has to make a choice at Christmas time between feeding their children or buying them a present, it’s just not right,” Ron notes. “We have to help those people. And I feel proud and lucky to be able to do what I do.”
The Mashpee Chamber of Commerce also chose Ron as their honoree this year, naming him the “Business Citizen of the Year”. This award recognizes all of the ways his leadership, performance, and influence have enhanced economic growth and business in Mashpee, and is a testament to his significant volunteerism within in the community.
The Bonvie Homes team has been steadily broadening its philanthropic reach, finding new and different ways to get involved and positively impact each of the communities in which they build. Led by Ron himself, the team works to make sure the new neighbors know – Bonvie Homes isn’t just here to put up houses. They want to become valued members of the community.
